On registering a child with the nursery, confirmation of a space will be made as soon as possible, most spaces becoming available in August of each year as and when children leave us to go to school.

In the event of over subscription, the following criteria will be used to determine admissions

  1. Family connections - Siblings attending the nursery.
  2. Convenience of access - Distance from home to nursery.
  3. Parents who work
  4. Recognised professional opinion indicating that the circumstances present a particularly strong case for admission.

Children with Special Educational Needs are admitted to Puddleducks under the same criteria as all other children.

In Policy

1. Parents and children who have been accepted into the nursery will be invited to meet the staff and become familiar with the surroundings.

We expect parents and children to attend nursery together for a few sessions before their child’s starting date. Arrangements for these can be made by telephoning the nursery.

2. Parents will be introduced to their child’s key worker who will discuss with parents their child’s routine and introduce parents to our policies.

3. We encourage parents to bring their child’s ‘comforters’ to nursery if they think it will help their child to feel safe and secure.

4. The Key worker will discuss with Parents, their child’s progress and any problems in the settling in period.

5. The staff may feel that it is in the child’s best interest for the parent to return to nursery and collect them in cases of extreme distress but hopefully this can be avoided by our carefully planned introduction.

Parents must always say good bye - even if there are a few tears.
