Spring Newsletter
A New Year - A little late, but Happy New Year!
We are as busy as can be, so thank you all for choosing us!
Parent involvement
We are always keen to involve you in your child’s nursery life. We would like to invite you all to come and spend some time with us in the coming weeks. If you would like to have an hour with us, speak to your child’s key worker and arrange a convenient time for you to come and play! All are welcome
Daily Diary’s and Development Records
All Parent’s /Carers of children attending the nursery can now access their children’s Development Record Books when they would like. They are kept in the hall on the shelf or upstairs on the radiator cabinet, and you just have to let your key worker know that you are taking it. Daily diary’s are also now kept in the hall in a basket as you walk in. Please pop them in their on your entrance into nursery and collect when you leave. We are trying to cut down on the amount of information going into these, as we feel the time it takes our staff to do these would be better spent caring and educating the children. You will still get a brief description of your child’s day but it will not be an essay!
Parents Notice Board
If you would like to know what has been planned for your child’s small group time for the week, then please look on the hall notice board for downstairs children and on the landing for upstairs. The menu’s for the week are also displayed on the parents notice board. We also add our observations to the board so as you can see what they have been doing during the session, so please spare a minute and have a read, sometimes they are very amusing! We also display the weeks enhanced provision, this is a list of items we have added to the areas that are different each week. These ideas all come from the staffs observations on the children’s work. The big notice board is also available for you to advertise anything, whether you have a pram for sale, or service you want to promote, please fell free to pop your ad on the board!
Chinese New Year
A huge thank you to Mr and Mrs Li, from Riverside Chinese Take away for providing the children with a fantastic range of Chinese food for them to try on Monday 23rd January. Not only did they provide the delicious food but they also showed everyone how to use chopsticks! Thank you, the children really had a lovely time.
Slippers and Shoes
All the children require indoor and outdoor shoes for nursery. The outdoor boots need to be in a named bag on your child’s peg. Your child’s indoor shoes can be kept in the hall in the shoe basket or upstairs on the landing. Please ensure your child has some suitable foot wear for inside the nursery, our floors are sometimes strewn with a variety of objects that can hurt little feet and they really need foot wear when going to the bathroom.
Breakfast
Our breakfast is served at 8.15am in the upstairs and downstairs nursery. We provide cereals, toast and fruit. If your child requires breakfast with us, please ensure they are with us for this time. If arriving later, please ensure they have eaten at home.
Funded Children
We have a list of term dates for parents of funded children. If you have not received a copy, please collect one from the hall. We only receive funding for 3 or 6 hours of care per day. If you do not pay for any wrap around care, then we can only care for your child between the times of funded sessions 9-12, 9-3 or 1-4pm. We do not receive enough funding to pay staff to stay in ratio, if you are late collecting or early dropping off. We will have to charge for any extra times taken as staff need to be paid.
Parent’s Evening
The parents Evening for the Spring Term will be on Wednesday April 4th between 7 and 8.30pm. If you would like to discuss your child’s progress at nursery with your child’s key worker ,please speak to them directly to arrange a time for you. If you are unable to attend, please do not worry, you are very welcome to make an appointment at a mutually convenient time.
Spare Clothes,
Please ensure your child has enough spare clothes, including socks, in their bags, for any accidents during the day.
The Downstairs Cloak Room and Improvement Plan
After looking at our questionnaires we have started working on the list of comments that you all made. We are in the process of revamping the cloak room. The new floor was laid on Saturday 28th January and the new coat hooks and racks for belongings will be going in sometime in February , fitted by a local company called Top Marks .We really are looking forward to a tidy area that can be kept clean. The old shelving units will all be removed as the children’s belongings will go under their pegs. We can’t wait!
The next area on the improvement plan is the garden and downstairs bathroom. If any parents are willing to help in the garden, we really would like some help and would appreciate any involvement or donations!!!!! The children really love planting and growing vegetables which we have always done, but if any of you want to help or are experts in the garden, please let us know! At the moment we have a shade canopy waiting to be erected, a decking area to be built and a set of chime bars that need fitting outside. Help all you DIY enthusiasts!
A Trip On The Bus!
We will be planning a trip on the bus to Baytree and the Owl Centre in the near future. We will have to ask for a small donation towards it. If you would like to help, please let us know!
